Profile of Ward 89 Councillor - Ingrid Reinten

Ingrid Reinten

Qualifications: B.Nursing (Wits) 1992. Post graduate diploma in community health 2005.

Currently completing my second year of a Masters in Advanced Neonatal Nursing at the University of Pretoria.

Political activity: joined the DA in 2006 after returning to SA after working in the UK and the Netherlands. Elected as vice chair of the DA Weltevreden branch in 2007 and elected branch chair in 2009. I was selected as the candidate for ward 89 for the 2011 local municipal elections, by the Democratic Alliance.

Ward 89 is a mature suburban area that requires maintenance so that it can retain its character of being a family friendly area where residents can live, learn and recreate in safety. We have some wonderful landmarks such as the Northcliff ridge and the start of the Klein Juskei river system and wetland.

I moved to the area when I was one week old and attended Cliffview Primary. My family and I have always lived in the ward.

My commitments, objectives and priorities if elected as a ward councillor in ward 89 are:

  • Putting the residents first
  • Communicating and giving regular updates to the residents
  • To undergo regular evaluations and performance appraisals by the mayoral committee to asses my performance
  • Focus on getting the basics right
  • Facilitating a consultation process with the community of ward 89 to assess it’s specific needs and raising these at council level
  • Strive to introduce fair and accurate billing at council level ( see DA local government election manifesto)
  • Maintenance of street lights
  • Attending to water leaks
  • Take measures to build a safer , more peaceful community by liaising with the local police service
  • Sustainable maintenance of the road network within the community
  • Looking out for and after the environment, in particular the wetlands and river banks in the area.

The Democratic Alliance‘s visions for the city is one that puts Johannesburg’s people first! A DA led Johannesburg will be responsive, proactive in service delivery, innovative, courteous, efficient, accountable, consultative, responsible, compassionate, efficient, firm on law enforcement and committed to better government in pursuit of the Open Opportunity Society for ALL Johannesburg’s people.
